Fuel Surcharge FAQs

Print
1. What is a fuel surcharge?

A fuel surcharge is a subsequent charge to you that will help us manage our ever-increasing fuel costs while still continuing to provide you, the customer, with the quality of services you have come to expect from Group 4 Securicor (G4S).

2.  Why has a fuel surcharge been implemented at G4S?

During the past decade, the global transportation market has been reacting to increased fuel and oil prices.  In the past, we have been able to absorb these costs into our regular operating budgets. However, we have seen an incredible increase in the cost of fuel.  As a transportation company, fuel costs are one of the most important items in our cost structure.  Therefore, we have had to make the difficult but necessary decision to follow the lead of other transportation companies and implement a fuel surcharge.

3. Who does the surcharge effect?

The surcharge affects all G4S commercial customers.  The products and services subject to charge are: ·Cash-In-Transit (CIT)·Over the Road Service (OTR) ·First Line Maintenance (FLM)·Bags/Supplies ·Night Depositories·Cash Replenishment – CU/PL ·Specials·Coin Delivery ·G4S International Valuables Transport (SIVT) Exempt:  Coin processing, cash processing, safes, vault cash

4. When did the surcharge officially come into effect?

November 1st, 2004

5.  Where is it implemented?

The surcharge affects all commercial customers across the country.  All provinces and locations are included in this surcharge.

6.  Is the surcharge the same each month?

No, the surcharge is dynamic.  It will be subject to review every month to more accurately reflect fluctuating market fuel costs.

7.  How is the surcharge calculated?

The fuel surcharge will be adjusted on the first calendar day of each month.  The rate will be based upon the national average price of regular unleaded gas established by MJ Ervin and Associates, a third-party company that monitors fuel prices across Canada daily. The table below illustrates the average pump price range that the surcharge will be calculated from:

Note:  Should fuel prices rise/fall beyond the prices noted, the table would be updated.

Current fuel surcharge rates will be posted at www.g4s.ca approximately two weeks prior to the effective date.  Determination of the fuel surcharge rate will be for the calendar month period ending the month prior to the calendar month.    Example:  August 2006 surcharge amount is based on the national average of June 2006.

8. Why is the surcharge not covered in our existing prices?

The cost of fuel fluctuates on a daily basis – and you should only pay for a true reflection of that dynamic price.  Extracting the fuel surcharge allows for such flexibility so that when the price of fuel drops, so will the surcharge for that month, and vice versa.

9.  Why do you base your surcharge on regular unleaded fuel, don’t you mainly use diesel?

Not so.  We have over 500 vehicles in transit, 70% of which run on regular unleaded fuel.   The large trucks (which are more visible in the public eye due to their size) run on diesel but account for only a relatively small percentage of our entire fleet.

10.  How does the surcharge appear on my invoice?

The surcharge will appear as a separate line item on your monthly invoice labelled as the fuel surcharge.

11.  Who do I contact if I have questions or concerns?

Please contact your local account representative directly.  Or you can e-mail your questions to questions@ca.g4s.com
