Eddie Izzard and Haile
5 April 2012Todays Financial Times Weekend Magazine features an exclusive article about when Eddie Izzard went training with G4S 4teen mentor Haile Gebrselassie
Long distance running legend and G4S 4teen mentor Haile Gebrselassie welcomed a new recruit into the G4S 4teen fold when he hosted comedian and actor Eddie Izzard in his hometown of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Eddie, who is famously known for his remarkable Sport Relief challenge, where he completed 43 marathons in 51 days, was eager to learn all Haile had to teach him about running, nutrition, and to soak up the running knowledge inherent in the Ethiopian culture.
Haile, in turn, was happy to show him around the city and adopted him as a temporary member of the Ethiopian National Team, taking him to train on Mount Entoto, where the elite runners of the country run.
The two keen runners had much to share on the three-day training trip and the Financial Times magazine has a wonderful eight page report on the experience written by Eddie himself.
“But Haile, I haven’t qualified yet,” Eddie joked when Haile presented him with an authentic Ethiopian Olympic tracksuit.
“You are supposed to be a comedian,” Haile returned, “I don’t know why you are not more funny.”
