G4S 4teen wins top industry accolade

G4S’ groundbreaking global sponsorship programme – G4S 4teen – has been recognised with a top award at the European Sponsorship Association’s annual prize-giving ceremony in Brussels on Thursday

G4S 4teen, which provides support to 14 young aspiring Olympic athletes from emerging international markets, won in the Best Sponsorship in the Business to Employee category at the ESA European Sponsorship Awards.

The G4S 4teen programme was launched in June 2007, conceived to nurture and support a new generation of young stars from around the world in their pursuit of the dream of competing at London 2012. Young athletes from Bangladesh, Botswana, Colombia, Chinese Taipei, Estonia, Guatemala, India, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Macau, Nigeria, South Africa, and Thailand were brought together under the G4S 4teen banner, covering a mix of Olympic sports including BMX, sailing, track and field, weightlifting, table tennis, swimming, cycling, shooting and archery.

The unique initiative has also attracted the support of legendary two-time Olympic gold medal winning athlete, Haile Gebrselassie, who acts as a mentor for the young sportsmen and sportswomen. Over the course of the programme’s first year the progress of the 14 athletes has been astonishing, not least with five of them competing ahead of schedule at this summer’s Olympic Games.

Debbie McGrath, Group Communications Director at G4S, was delighted with the recognition for the programme just over a year after its launch:

This award is recognition for the fantastic start G4S 4teen has made in its first year and the potential it has to make a difference over the next four.”
