G4S partnerships in sport

G4S has been involved in sport on many levels for a number of years

From funding grassroots projects to sponsorships of national teams, we recognise the power of sport to engage, unite and fire people’s passions, regardless of their nationality, gender, language or religion.

G4S 4teen
For over six years, G4S has supported a group of young sportsmen and women from disadvantaged backgrounds around the world as a part of the G4S 4teen programme.

In 2007, G4S launched the G4S 4teen to nurture 14 young athletes from disadvantaged backgrounds around the world. The programme, mentored by double Olympic gold medallist Haile Gebrselassie, has enabled youngsters to achieve their ambitions.

They were selected from the best young athletes in their respective countries and the programme has helped to inspire the future generation of sporting talent. Together with the support of inspirational mentor and global ambassador, double Olympic champion Haile Gebrselassie, the 14 athletes came together as one team supported by G4S’s international network of offices and employees.

G4S has supported the athletes, their families and the communities in which they live financially, socially and logistically in a genuine and meaningful way. In turn, the G4S 4teen are now starting to inspire the next generation of athletes in their own countries to fulfil their own dreams.

The G4S 4teen was about much more than financial sponsorship; over the course of the programme, G4S supported the athletes and their families with everything from English language lessons to media training to computer technology courses.

Both at G4S plc and at the G4S offices around the world, G4S worked closely with the athletes to find out what would really help them achieve their goals. In addition to helping inspire the athletes, G4S also supported the local communities in which the athletes live and train.

The G4S 4teen has seen a number of achievements over the last 6 years, culminating in Colombian BMX rider, Mariana Pajon, winning her country’s only gold medal at the London 2012 Olympic Games (becoming only Colombia’s second Olympic Gold medallist in history).

In May 2013, the G4S 4teen athletes gathered together for a final time to celebrate the success of the programme in Addis Ababa, hometown of their inspiring mentor, Haile Gebrselassie.
