Standing out from the Crowd
Firstly, they are the only security guarding company in Jamaica where guards are employees of the company. Guards at all other companies are employed as contractors and simply get a pay rate for hours worked – the relationship ends there.
Being employed by G4S in Jamaica entitles its staff to a wide range of benefits from sick leave and paid holiday to the best security officer training available on the island. Not only that but they are compensated at a much higher rate compared to other guards and are also entitled to an attendance and proficiency bonus.
Perhaps not surprisingly, G4S officers are considered the elite guard force in Jamaica and work at prestigious contracts such as the US Embassy, Canadian and British High Commissions in Kingston as well as providing guarding protection services at the homes of the diplomats.
Alexander Johnson, Operations Manager in Jamaica commented, “We understand the challenges that our guards face on a daily basis. Attention is therefore paid to the finer details of their working lives to help ensure that they have as much peace of mind as possible.
Aside from the above, schedules are developed so that guards can predict their days off. Additionally, subsidised hot meals for all guards seven days a week are provided, cooked on our own premises and delivered to guards at their posts. Furthermore, practical help to all employees is offered if a hurricane strikes as well as communication programmes highlighting preventative measures. We organise social and sporting events and have an Employee Welfare Fund that provides financial support to any guards who experience a crisis in their family lives.”
It is no wonder that staff turnover in G4S Jamaica is so low and average length of service so high.
