Saving lives during London Bombings

Awarded for bravery during the London Bombings

A security officer is often faced with challenges that test their ability to think on their feet, go the extra mile, stay calm and put the skills they have learnt in G4S into practice.

Area Supervisor, Muhammad Khalil was one such example, with his commendable acts of bravery during the 7 July 2005 bombings.  His efforts to save lives made him the first security officer in 1,000 years to win an award under the Sheriff’s name, ‘the Sheriff’s Award’, launched by the UK-wide company of Security Professionals.  His actions were also rewarded by G4S with the overall award of Security Officer of the Year in their annual recognition award scheme.

Trained first-aider Muhammad was on duty near London’s Kings Cross station, and despite being exposed to toxic fumes in the tube carriages, he obtained a first-aid kit and began the long and arduous task of rescuing and giving first-aid treatment to injured and semi-conscious passengers.  For seven hours Muhammad worked tirelessly helping victims escape by pulling bodies out from the station tracks, trains and tunnels in dark, smoky and hot conditions.
