Challenging contract makes G4S the envy of the security sector in South Africa

Vodacom (Pty) Ltd is South Africa’s largest cellular telephone service provider with major operations in Johannesburg, Pretoria, Bloemfontein, Kimberley, Durban, Port Elizabeth and Cape Town. At the hub of security operations is the G4S nerve centre at Midrand, which, to date, is probably one of the most comprehensive and successful examples of an integrated security service on the African Continent

The Midrand operation is impressive in its own right but the achievement becomes more significant when the extent of Midrand’s integration with the other seven campuses is revealed. While each campus is a stand-alone operational security centre, Midrand is able to monitor electronically almost every aspect of each centre’s security operation in real time around the clock. The result has been astonishing reductions in security breaches and losses, and the evolution of a customer/service provider which is the envy of the security sector in South Africa.

G4S has also become an integral component of Vodacom’s Business Continuity Programme. The company’s monthly reports and threat analyses recommendations are so highly regarded, that they have become regular items on the agenda of the Executive Security monthly meetings.
