Helping orphaned Chinese children
"As I know from the early years of my career, it is essential that young athletes receive the help and support they need to develop and succeed.
"Also the friendship, respect and understanding you get of other athletes and their cultures from being a member of such a team is invaluable.
"The level of commitment that G4S have shown to the members of the team is impressive and I am honoured to be able to play my part as the team's global ambassador."
Ken May, G4S Regional Managing Director, Greater China, with some of the children who will benefit from the JIFU Action Project.
G4S support, over a six-year period from 2007, will help pay teachers’ salaries, buy teaching aids, supplies and sports equipment, as well as meeting many other expenses, including the installation of an elevator, which is also being part-funded by the Japanese Embassy.
In the first academic year, G4S will support 12 children and this number will increase progressively over the six years of the programme, eventually involving around 82 youngsters.
Already, the educational programme that has been put in place is attracting keen interest from eligible children. |
