Occupational Safety and Health Award

G4S Holdings (Hong Kong) Ltd was awarded “The Hong Kong Federation of Insurers Award for Excellence in OSH – Bronze Award” at the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre on September 8th, 2006.

The Occupational Safety & Health Awards, organized by the Occupational Safety and Health Council (OSHC) and Hong Kong Labour Department recognizes companies who have made efforts in the promotion of health and safety.  G4S’ award was thanks in part to the establishment of G4S Work Injury Care Program (G4SWIC).

In October 2003, G4S introduced the G4SWIC to manage all work injury cases.   The program aims to provide both physical and psychological care to injured employees.  Under the G4SWIC, G4S, together with the help of qualified health care professional partners, provides proactive, free, timely and appropriate rehabilitation services to injured employees.  The objective of G4SWIC is to help injured employees achieve a healthier and speedier recovery, has been achieved through working closely with the injured to better accommodate individuals.

Other than free and timely medical services, the G4SWIC Program also allows injured employees to return to work on a modified work schedule tailored to their capabilities, taking into account limitations advised by medical professionals.  Modified work duty has been shown to accelerate the recovery process while also building up injured employees’ confidence levels through social interaction and training.  This also has the added benefit of facilitating the adaptation back to a normal work environment after a long leave of absence due to injury.

Since the implementation of G4SWIC 3 years ago, both G4S and its employees have been able to see distinctive benefits.  Not only are injured employees receiving prompt medical services and advice, but G4S were also able to retain skilled employees by helping them return gradually to work.  The number of working days lost per case has been decreased dramatically by 70% over 3 years.  The significant drop not only represents a cost benefit for G4S, but more importantly, improves the recovery process for injured employees due to quality work injury management.
