As a global organisation with over 580,000 employees G4S has the potential to create a real impact for the communities in which we operate. We therefore recognise our responsibility to our local communities and strive to be a good corporate citizen at all levels.
Global Company, Local Communities
G4S encourages its colleagues around the world to invest time and energy in local projects in the communities in which they live and work - the following are examples of the types of projects supported by G4S:
Investing in young sportsmen and women through the G4S 4teen - a group of aspiring young athletes chosen from developing communities around the world as they seek to fulfil their potential on sport's biggest stages over the coming years.
In 2008 our G4S Mine Action teams supported projects in nine countries, training and employing over 300 local staff to clear over 100,000 items of unexploded ordnance and putting 10 million m2 of land back into productive use.
Supporting the St Paul's Children's Home in Kenya, home to over 60 destitue children aged from just 2 months old. G4S has provided funding and equipment to the home and in 2008 committed to providing the home with a means of sustainable income and improving the diets of the children.
G4S is a key financial and management partner of the Bromley by Bow Centre, an innovative community organisation in one of London's most deprived areas. With support from G4S, the centre helps families, young people and adults to learn new skills, improve their health, find employment and develop the confidence to transform their lives.
Employee Involvement
G4S supports and encourages our employees to become involved their local communities through the G4S Match It programme. The programme offers to match money raised by them for local good causes and community projects.
G4S Community Projects
In 2006, G4S plc launched a programme of support for five Community Projects which aims to support a range of health, welfare and community initiatives in developing markets around the world.
