G4S has launched an innovative sports programme to support a group of fourteen aspiring
young athletes from around the world, the G4S 4teen.
With
the advice and support of
leading sporting bodies and National Olympic Committees, fourteen young sportsmen and women who demonstrated
the strong set of values required to develop and compete at the highest level were identified and selected
to join G4S 4teen.
The programme also attracted the support of double
Olympic Gold medallist and global sporting icon Haile Gebrselassie. An inspiration
to hundreds of thousands
of athletes for the past two decades, Haile has committed to mentor the team to help each athlete achieve
their sporting goals.
Nineteen year old Africa
junior 5000m bronze medalist Pauline Korikwiang has been chosen by G4S to be its
Kenyan sports
ambassador for both international and local events.
"To learn from one of the greatest, if not the
greatest long distance runners of all time is a
dream come true" said Pauline during her visit to London to meet Haile Gebreselassie and her G4S
4teen team mates.
Over
the coming years the project
will support Pauline as she seeks to fulfill her potential on sport’s biggest stages
over the years.
The
G4S 4teen initiative will provide support to athletes
as they seek to realize a common Olympic
dream, and in so doing help inspire the next generation of young athletes to take up the sport.
In
addition to Pauline, three other Africans including Zodwa Maphanga from South Africa,
Fanuel Kenosi in Botswana,
and Obinna Metu from Nigeria are also menbers of the G4S 4teen.
