Courts

We have recently been awarded a new 25-year contract, as part of a consortium with Babcock & Brown, to design, build and provide Facilities Management services to the Dublin Criminal Courts Complex.  This is the first major PPP for an Irish Government building and will be a landmark civic building on a central Dublin site.  This criminal courts complex will consolidate all criminal courts facilities in Dublin, which will cover an area of over 25,000 square metres.

We currently hold the contracts to both maintain court buildings and look after prisoners while they are on court premises at Manchester Magistrates Court.

CASE STUDY: Manchester Magistrates Court

We have undertaken a project to design, build, finance and operate the new Magistrates Court complex for the City of Manchester under a 25-year PFI scheme.

The new complex houses 18 courtrooms, a coroner’s court, a secure custodial suite with 48 cells, 2 restaurants, a public café, training rooms, access areas and office space for 200 support staff.  The building covers a total of 45,720 square metres and also has 584 square metres of retail space.

We provide a total facilities management package that includes security, helpdesk, archiving, cleaning, catering, building maintenance and stationary ordering services delivered by a team of 35 multi-skilled G4S Integrated Services facilities management staff.

By understanding our customer’s needs and expectations we deliver a superior rapid response service.  The Manchester Magistrates Courts facilities management team has recently received a customer satisfaction rating of 82% from our customer HMCS.

In addition, under a separate contract, we are also responsible for the management and care of prisoners in the building.

The modern courtrooms and office facilities are housed in separate buildings that provide a smart modern environment with a glazed atrium separating the blocks and which overlook a planted subtropical garden.

The building layout allows for operational changes within the judicial system over the life of the premises.

The scope of services we provide at Manchester Magistrates Court includes:

In opening the courts Lord Woolf, The Lord Chief Justice said:  “Probably the finest magistrates court building in the country.” (Lord Woolf, The Lord Chief Justice, March 2005)

“On behalf of the Estates Team I would like to thank you for the excellent service that G4S Integrated Services has provided in the current year.”  (Chris Large, Area Estates Manager, Greater Manchester Estates Management Team, April 2006)
