Profile:An athlete of Jharkhand Archery Association, Mangal started in archery at just three years of age. Mangal is a student at Dhtkidim High School and likes to play football in his spare time. Mangal grew up in a village where he learnt the art of archery. In order to strengthen the muscles in his hand he practiced with the inner of a rubber tyre and then progressed onto a traditional bow and arrow which he used to great effect to ward off herds of elephants that regularly came to visit his village unannounced. 2008 All India Schools Championships - Gold (60m), Gold (50m), Gold (30m) Gold (Individual overall champion) Sporting Ambition:Mangal’s dream is to win an Olympic medal. Updates:October 2009At the moment, I am practicing in Pune and I want to practice continuouslyhere because I feel it is a very good place for my training as it is a good sports environment here. The training happens under my archery Coach M B Gurung. Soon, I am going to compete at the Junior National Archery Championship, held at Raipur(Chhattisgarh) from 01 to 05 Nov 2009. January 2009Mangal won Gold in the 50 metre and a Bronze in 30 metre competitions at the 29th Sub Junior National Archery Championship held in New Delhi in January, 2009. He won a further Silver Medal in the team competition at the same event. Mangal also participated in 54th All India School Games held in Aurangabad in January, winning four Gold Medals and two Silvers in 60, 50 and 30 metre competitions, as well as in the overall individual event. He won a Silver Medal in the 70 metre category and another in the overall team competition. December 2008Mangal Ho was soaring high after winning almost all his competitions in recent times. He won a Gold Medal in 50 metres and a Bronze Medal in 30 metres at the 29th Sub Junior National Archery Championship held in New Delhi. He then secured another Silver Medal in the team competition. |
