Profile:

Sharmin Akhtar has represented Bangladesh in shooting for the last seven years.

Her sporting hero is Malcolm Cooper MBE, four times an Olympian and winner of two gold Olympic medals; Sharmin aspires to be like Cooper and hopes to achieve the same level he got to. Sharmin first started shooting competitively at 12 years old and she now shoots for the Bangladeshi national sports institute’s BKSP club in Savar. In 2008 Sharmin qualified for the Beijing Olympic Games.

Things are going very well this month, I’ve had a very good time training and I’ve been impressed with my progress. I’ve also been spending more time on my English; I would like to remember how my English was two years ago as I believe it may have greatly improved. Earlier last month I was honoured with an award, Sportsmen and Women from the country were included and I was given the Journalists’ award.
