Summer Diary - Estonia

“The beginning of this year was very promising. I was really pleased with my results in USA and training was going very well! But once I got back to Estonia for my main competitions, the whole system broke. My coach was in Dallas and it was hard to train on my own at home.

Although I didn’t accomplish my main goal this year, of throwing over 60m, I am feeling optimistic for the coming season. Now I’m back in Dallas, where school has already begun, and we are planning our training schedule for this winter. It’s going to be hard, but I’m up for it. My main goal for next year is winning the U23 European Championships in Kaunas, Lithuania. The Championships are being held on the 16th – 19th July.

We had a lot of fun this year with G4S also. G4S Estonia organised a few camps for children and I was the surprise guest. I had the chance to talk to children about goal setting and how to make your way through life.

I would like to give my best wishes out to the G4S 4teen members and their coaches who competed at the Olympics and to all the G4S staff who are taking care of us!”

Cheers,

Margus

February 2008

So far so good. We had a real hard training cycle for four weeks and after that we took it a little bit easier for a week, now there is a new four week hard cycle for the end of this program, which should be in the end of March, then I will compete in Arlington for discus throw and shot put. Looking forward to it!!!

On the 24th of February I had my first indoor meet and that means, that I opened my 2008 season. The competition was in Norman, OK, and I participated in the shot put and in the weight throw. I won the shot with a effort of 17,46m although the result doesn’t seem so good I’m still happy, because the warm up throws were over 18,40m and that gives me confidence to throw far real soon. In the weight throw I placed 4th with a PB of 19.80m. Looking forward to Dubai.

January 2008

On the 7th of January I had a 24 hour Journey to United States of America in to Dallas, Texas. This city will be my home for the next 5 months. I will do my training here and also go to the University here, which is Southern Methodist University. So far my workouts and studies are going well and I hope to throw far very soon. The weather here is very good and I can throw everyday outside and don’t have to worry about the cold weather and rain and snow. Also I’m looking forward for that Dubai meet in April and hope to see you all there!

December 2007

All of November and half of December I spent my time in the army, however now its finally over, but they want me back for a couple of weeks in April. Military training was actually quite fun and a very good experience. I’ve made a lot of new friends and very good knowledge. I also had time to do my training, so I’m not in a bad shape! The rest of December and a few days of January I will be at home and continue to do training, then on the 7th of January I will fly to Dallas, Texas, USA.

October 2007

October was a pretty cool month. I got to go to India! In the town called Hyderabad was held the 4th Military World Games. Although my competition didn’t go so well, then India itself was a cool place to go. The people there were so nice and help a lot everytime I had a problem. Now I will go back to the Estonian Military base and spend the next 7 weeks in there. Also, while being there, I can do my trainings, so I will be ready to throw far next season.

September 2007

September was pretty much the end of season for me and I started a new preparation for the new season.

I had two competitions, one in Helsingborg, SWE and the other in Tallinn, EST. In Helsingborg was a pretty good wind and great conditions, but my technique fell apart and I was 7th on that competition with the result of 56,47.

On the second competiton I threw 56,51, not so bad result, but I hoped for better.

Now I joined the Estonian Military and will be here for 10 weeks, also I can continue my training program and keep you informed!

Stay Tuned!

August 2007

Because most of the season is over and I only have a few competetitions coming, I have done very easy training sessions. Most of the time I practice in my little home town in Estonia.

August was a very good month for relaxing, because here it was sunny and very warm! perfect conditions for a thrower. Also I have taken this month as a vacation-month but training and relaxing together.

Still, I have two pretty big competitions ahead, and I feel confident about them. My main goal is to finish finally this season and start focusing on the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
