Tanzanian Rugby Union
"We are proud to be the new major sponsor of the
Tanzanian Rugby
Union and
are confident that your first outing in the new Tanzanian strip emblazoned with our logo will be
a winning one," said the General Manager of
G4S Tanzania, Arrie van Wyk, when
he address the Tanzanian Twigas rugby team prior to their match with Reunion in October 2006
The
announcement was fortunately prophetic, as the Tanzanian Twigas hung on against Reunion to claim their
third tournament in three years. The Twigas now occupy 13th place and have a good chance to claim
10th place with a win over either Nigeria or Niger in the tournament final.
Despite
the Tanzanian Rugby Union being an associate member of an International Rugby Board, the Tanzanian Rugby
Union and its President, Tinus Aucamp had unfortunately been unable to secure financial backing and
the future of the tournament seemed in doubt.
G4S Tanzania, firm supporters
of sport, came to the rescue by agreeing a deal with the Union to become the Tanzanian Rugby Union's
new sponsor.
Prior to the game each player was presented with their new
national jersey by Mr Van Wyk.
