HMP & YOI Parc - Young Persons Unit
Our flexibility in responding to the needs of our customers is highlighted in the Young Persons Unit at HMP & YOI Parc.
The 64-bed young persons unit for young men aged from 15 – 18 years of age, was opened in response to the Youth Justice Board’s desire to house Welsh young people closer to their own homes.
The ethos of the Young Persons Unit is to create a safe and constructive youth remand environment which enables young people to address their offending behaviour and prepare for resettlement in the community. Youth are encouraged to make positive life choices which enable them to be successfully integrated back into the community after release.
Education and training is provided to all, while a range of voluntary agencies provide group work in areas like accommodation, drug and alcohol misuse, employment and benefits.
Staff working with young people have been specially selected for their interpersonal skills and have completed highly specialised training in working with adolescents.
