STREET Smart – A New Beginning is a wrap-around programme offered in Florida and Virginia to provide transition assessment, planning and support services. These services are provided for 12 months upon return to the community and include job development and placement, employment and living arrangement support, and mentoring services according to each youth’s individualized transition plan and needs.In conjunction with Avon Park was the only juvenile corrections programme in the world to win an award at the International Corrections and Prisons Association Awards in 2003. In addition, the Avon Park programme was featured in the best practices edition of “Corrections Today” magazine and in the Annie E. Casey Foundation “Barriers and Promising Approaches to Workforce and Youth Development for Young Offenders.” It also was featured on a national videoconference on promising new programmes sponsored by the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention and the Department of Labor.
Cypress Creek Juvenile Offender Correctional Center is a 96 bed secure residential programme for 48 maximum risk and 48 high risk male offenders between the ages of 13 and 21. Thirty of these places are designated for youth requiring specialised mental health or substance misuse services.
Dade County Juvenile Residential Facility serves moderate risk male youth that have been assessed as needing intensive dual diagnosis treatment services or intensive mental health treatment services. The program is highly structured to provide secure care, treatment and supervision. Evidence-based practices are utilised to provide integrated treatment for youth within a framework based on Restorative Justice philosophies, principles and practices.
Davidson County Juvenile Detention Center in Tennessee is a secure detention facility for up to 64 male and female youth in pre- and post-adjudication status. Included in the operation of the detention center is a non-secure home detention electronic monitoring programme operated by G4S Justice Services, Inc. We provide a comprehensive educational programme, including special education, recreation and GED preparation for the youth.
Hastings Youth Academy is a 185 bed residential facility for 65 high risk male offenders and moderate risk male offenders between the ages of 14 and 19. The HYA approach is a male gender specific, cognitive-behavioural treatment programme within a therapeutic community setting and is based on the most current “Best Practices” research. One hundred twenty (120) beds are designated for youth with significant mental health or substance misuse needs. A comprehensive educational programme is integrated into the overall living environment and the programme’s behaviour incentive system.
Okeechobee Juvenile Offender Correctional Facility is a 96 bed secure residential programme for male youth between the ages of 13 and 21. There are 48 high risk youth that are offered specialized sex offender treatment and 48 maximum-risk youth and high profile youth sentenced to the adult Department of Corrections but placed with the Department of Juvenile Justice. A full educational programme is provided by our employees.
Polk Juvenile Correctional Facility is a 240 bed secure residential programme for high risk males between the ages of 14 and 21. The programme provides specialized treatment services to youth that have significant mental health and substance misuse issues requiring intensive intervention
Sago Palm Academy is a 264 bed secure residential programme for high risk males between the ages of 14 and 18. The programme offers specialized treatment for 120 juvenile sex offenders and residential substance misuse treatment (RSAT) services for 96 youth. An innovative after school programme offers courses in adaptive skills for community living including parenting, multicultural awareness and academic enrichment.
