G4S Utility Services partnered with Orsis UK, Revenco’s own UK AMR service provider, utilising a wireless technology solution manufactured by Revenco
G4S Utility services vision is that it will continue to develop as an “end to end” AMR solutions provider by constantly improving its integrated combination of hardware solutions and world-beating field services. This is why, unlike many other AMR service providers, G4S Utility Services will install and service innovative hardware provided by manufacturers such as Revenco, who then act as Data Retriever.
The work delivers an AMR dual fuel (gas & electricity) services to domestic dwellings in North Wales. This area was selected due to the known challenges for mobile communication signal connectivity. Proof of concept was a prime consideration and accepting challenging connectivity was viewed as an essential part of the proving process
In theory, the business model is simple. Subscribers confirm acceptance for the AMR service and equipment to the energy retailers contact centre. G4S Utility Services then allocates one of their home based field engineers to install the equipment, according to a schedule of visits set up by the call centre.
In practice, however, access can prove very difficult - particularly so when coordinating the replacement of both gas and electricity meters. Many householders simply forget the arrangements they have made. G4S Utility Services relies heavily on both local knowledge gained in 13 years of visually reading the meters at the same premises and the experience of its call centre staff to bring the project to a successful and timely conclusion.
