Detention and removal centres

On behalf of the UK government, G4S operates immigration removal centres.  This involves the provision of a safe environment, accommodation, catering, medical, religious, education and leisure services for people of diverse ethnicity and cultural backgrounds. We accept and understand the trust placed in our people for the care and welfare of those held.

We are a caring organisation, sensitive to the fact that many of the people in our centres are concerned at the uncertainty of their future as they await determination of their application to remain in the United Kingdom.

Our centres seek to provide a stimulating activities programme, including education and recreation facilities, and to ensure that detainees can maintain contact with friends, families and legal advisers during their stay.

Dungavel House Immigration Removal Centre

In September 2006 we took over the operation of Dungavel House Immigration Removal Centre (IRC) located in South Lanarkshire, Scotland.  Dungavel IRC holds both male and female detainees and has facilities for the care of families including children. The centre has the capacity to hold 148 single males, 14 single females and eight families.

Oakington Immigration Removal Centre

Oakington Immigration Removal Centre(IRC) is located in Cambridgeshire and is a 400-bed facility accommodating males only.

Tinsley House Immigration Removal Centre

Tinsley House Immigration Removal Centre, situated at Gatwick Airport, West Sussex, is also managed by us. This facility opened in May 1996 and can accommodate up to 150 persons. It has separate accommodation for both male and female detainees and facilities for families with children.
