G4S's court services team has unrivalled expertise in caring for prisoners while they are on court premises.  We employ a strong team of over 1,000 Prisoner Custody Officers (PCO's) who are responsible for ensuring the secure custody, care and welfare of prisoners whilst in our care with in the court system, in a safe manner and in line with regulations. They are trained to ensure that prisoners and detainees, regardless of their alleged or proven crimes, are dealt with consistently, fairly and with compassion.

We ensure that personal needs are met, and the impact of what can be a very traumatic experience is minimised.  Where friction is encountered, verbal conflict resolution skills are always used and minimum force is reserved as a solution of last resort.

Our PCO’s receive, process and hold prisoners at the courts, ensuring that they are delivered to the right court room at the right time.  Whilst they are held in the custody suites, they will receive food and water and, if required, healthcare visits.  They may have a number of people visiting them, including solicitors, probation workers and nurses.  These visits all have to be managed by our PCO’s.  Following their court appearance, we process individuals for their release from custody or retain them in custody pending their return to prison.
