Mine action
G4S Risk Management’s specialist Mine Action business,
ArmorGroup Mine Action (AGMA), is a commercial leader in the environmental remediation of landmine and unexploded ordnance (UXO) pollution, clearing battlefields and controlling conventional weapons. AGMA operates globally, supporting sustainable humanitarian and reconstruction programmes to remove the menace of landmines and UXO as well as assisting commercial clients to conduct their business safely in post-conflict regions. Over the last decade, AGMA teams have operated in 24 countries including Afghanistan, Bosnia, Cyprus, Iraq, Lebanon, Mozambique, Nepal, Sakhalin Island (Russia) and Sudan.
Over that time our teams, using a mix of manual, mine and explosive detection dogs and mechanical clearance methods have:
- Returned over 1,000 km² of land to productive use
- Cleared almost 40,000 houses
- Destroyed almost 20 million items of unexploded ordnance
- Destroyed over 172,000 land mines.
AGMA’s approach to Mine Action encompasses the need to build local and national capacity through comprehensive mine risk education, training, supervision and management. Our qualified, capable and highly experienced staff have an excellent safety record and share a commitment to help solve the global UXO and ERW problem while providing a safe, quality-assured and cost-effective capability to our clients.
Quality assurance and quality control for mine action programmes are vital to ensure that the methodology employed meet with International Mine Action Standards or country-specific guidelines, provide confidence to those intending to use the land post clearance and to assure the donor that funds were expended appropriately.
