Allan Bridges Honoured with Australian Corrections Medal for Dedication to Service

G4S employee, Allan Bridges, has been named a recipient of the prestigious Australian Corrections Medal in The King's Birthday 2025 Honours List (Meritorious Awards). This significant recognition celebrates nearly three decades of dedicated service with G4S and his remarkable achievements and contributions at Mount Gambier Prison, highlighting his profound impact on prisoner rehabilitation and community safety.
Allan, currently the Manager of Resettlement and Reintegration at Mount Gambier Prison, commenced his service with G4S on 15 April 1996. In this role, he provides managerial support to a team of social workers, educators and case managers. Throughout his distinguished career, he has held various frontline roles, including correctional supervisor and programs manager. In these capacities, he oversaw case management and led a vital support team comprising education coordinators, medical personnel, social workers, psychologists, and external contractors.

Allan's unwavering commitment to prisoner rehabilitation has been a cornerstone of his career. He takes immense pride in his positive outlook and supportive approach, guiding prisoners through their journey within the correctional system. His proactive efforts have seen him source countless local programs, proving instrumental in the successful reintegration of many offenders managed at Mount Gambier Prison. Furthermore, he has forged numerous strong partnerships with community members to develop voluntary programs that aid prisoners in their successful return to society upon release. This includes actively networking with businesses in Mount Gambier and Adelaide to identify employment gaps that reintegrated prisoners can fill.

"It is a tremendous honour to receive this award," Mr. Bridges stated. Throughout my career, I've been fortunate to have an incredible team behind me. Our shared goal has always been to ensure offenders are rehabilitated, preventing them from creating more victims and ultimately returning to prison."
Under Allan's influence and leadership, Mount Gambier Prison has attained the lowest recidivism rate in South Australia, setting a benchmark for correctional facilities statewide. This achievement is a primary contributor to South Australia’s position as the jurisdiction with the lowest recidivism rate across the nation. This success is largely attributed to the many strong partnerships forged by Allan and his team, along with the comprehensive programs that equip prisoners with the essential skills and resources needed to succeed outside prison walls. These initiatives not only reduce reoffending rates but also play a crucial role in creating safer communities.

"Working in a prison setting is undeniably unique, with its challenges and constant evolution – it's certainly never boring," Allan said. "You truly never know what the next moment will bring. What I find particularly rewarding is hearing feedback about offenders who have been released and successfully reintegrated into society. Knowing they've found work, secured stable accommodation, reconnected with their families, and are now firmly established within their communities is incredibly fulfilling."
Mr. Bridges strongly believes in the power of individual influence within the correctional system. "All of us have the capacity to be a positive influence on those whom we are charged to look after, regardless of the position we hold within the prison," he emphasised.

Allan is highly respected as a leader and role model within G4S due to his positive nature, enthusiasm for his role, and willingness to assist prisoners in the next stage of their journey. His almost 30 years of service have made a significant contribution to the safety and well-being of the South Australian community, successfully helping offenders resettle and reintegrate into society upon release. Working in a prison is highly sensitive work, and Mr Bridges has done so with distinction for his entire career, actively contributing to improving the lives of offenders and reducing the rate of reoffending in South Australia and beyond.

A warm congratulations from everyone at G4S to Allan on this well-deserved recognition!
