One of our customers is a commercial shopping centre that had planned to host several outdoor concerts featuring popular artists. Here’s how G4S stepped up to enhance security to accommodate these events and ensure the security of the famous performers.
Setting the Stage for Excellent Events
THE CHALLENGES: OVERVIEW
Sometimes we are approached by current customers with new requirements that go above and beyond the fixed tasks and duties currently being carried out at that property. One of our customers, a commercial shopping arcade, planned several outdoor events and concerts that were not part of their regular services.
These events involved famous celebrities, who would require special protection against over enthusiastic fans. In the case of this series of outdoor concerts, this was an opportunity to step up and provide a high level of service within a new context.
Another challenge was that these outdoor concerts would be taking place during the winter months. So, G4S needed to deliver winter clothing so that staff could perform their roles comfortably in the cold weather.
THE GOALS
The goal was to ensure that these events went smoothly and that all celebrities and performers would be safe and protected at all times. G4S would be fully responsible for ensuring security coverage for these concerts and special events. It was also important to protect the health of all visitors, and to safeguard the property itself.
This strategic approach was planned out based on a careful analysis of the events and their inherent risks. Since G4S has been working on this building for a long time, we were aware of the specific risks and requirements of this building.
We also knew that we had suppliers who could deliver the winter clothing required in a short period of time, so we set this in motion in order to be prepared.
THE SOLUTION
When the customer approached us with this request, we started an emergency requirement drive to build the necessary team. A Special Event Manager was employed who would be in charge of managing security for the event. This was important, to make sure the team had clear expertise, direction and management.
We also employed a team of security guards to safeguard the public, as well as VIP enhanced security guards for each of the performing celebrities. Before the start of the event, security guards would be stationed at their posts waiting for visitors to enter the auditorium.
After the concert, the enhanced security guards would escort the performer back to the dressing room and supervise the signing of autographs and interactions with fans. There would also be a paramedic present on the scene, ready to provide first aid if needed.
THE RESULTS
The security service provided was a great success, as there were no personal injury incidents or damage to the customer’s property during any of the events. The concerts and special events were notably well organised and everything ran smoothly.
The customer had initially been worried about whether they would be able to get high quality security delivered in a timely way for these events. The customer was very pleased with our services and professionalism.
The celebrities who were guarded by the enhanced security guards praised the professional, high quality service they received. Thanks to the success of these events, the customer plans to organise more concerts at the venue and will continue to use our security services.
