THE CHALLENGES: OVERVIEW
The Jockey Club is the UK’s largest commercial horse racing organisation. They own 15 of Britain’s most famous racecourses, including Epsom Downs, Aintree and Cheltenham. Founded as one of the top- tier high society social clubs in the UK, it has become synonymous with British horseracing traditions.
G4S is proud to have a long-standing working relationship with The Jockey Club, providing security support for the Grand National for three decades. We’ve also been providing security at Haydock Race Course for 15 years and at Carlisle for 10 years. When they first came to us nearly 30 years ago, this horse racing club needed a trusted security partner who could go above and beyond to provide them with an exceptional level of security and customer service.
Since their events hold many thousands of people, it is important for them to have a partner who can provide enough security, and who is reliable as well as flexible.
THE GOALS
Throughout our collaboration with The Jockey Club,
we’ve become a true partner by understanding and
living through challenges with them.
G4S has provided risk assessments for all functions
and events and has also provided bespoke risk
assessments for unique threats such as high-risk
protesters.
Additionally, we’ve always made it a priority to provide
industry standard training, including NVQ and vehicle
search training, evacuation chain training and customer
service training.
THE SOLUTION
The custom solution G4S provides covers multiple world-famous race courses, deploying approximately 800 staff per day. Some of the most important elements of this security system include:
- Our high-quality security guarding services, with highly trained experts.
- A central control room where all aspects of security are monitored using the latest technology.
- An Accelerant and Explosives Canine team, trained to detect firearms and ammunition that are hidden in containers and vehicles and on persons.
In addition to these main elements, our security offerings are always evolving to accommodate the customer’s ongoing needs.
THE RESULTS
The Jockey Club has been pleased with the service,
which is why they’ve continued to work with us over
multiple venues and events for several decades.
Our partnership has evolved to more than just a
supplier-customer relationship. G4S is a trusted lead
security partner and we work closely with their senior
leadership team.
This collaboration has expanded to include other
flagship events on an adhoc basis, such as Cheltenham
Golf Club and Epsom Derby.
