supporting Belgrade's large-scale urban renewal project
In 2014, the Serbian government began plans to improve Belgrade’s cityscape and boost its local economy by revitalising a large stretch of land along the banks of the river Sava.
This 3.5 billion USD project, named the Belgrade Waterfront, will allow this once neglected area to become home to over 14,000 people and create over 20,000 jobs. The site, located 15 minutes from the nearest international airport, will be home to the largest shopping, dining and entertainment destination in South Eastern Europe, as well as 7,000 apartments, seven hotels, 2,000 offices, childcare facilities and museums.
G4S has secured the project since the beginning. Every few months, new construction would begin, and soon G4S had deployed over 100 security officers to the enormous building site which spreads across 1 million square metres.
As the Galerija Belgrade shopping mall approaches completion, G4S has also advised the project owners how to implement a secure video-based parking management system on site. The sophisticated solution guides visitors to the nearest vacant spot with the use of signage and digital sensors, while the Car Locator Kiosk and smartphone app will help shoppers find their car and get on their way quickly.
“This is the biggest smart parking project G4S has been involved in so far,” explains Srdjan Vracar, Electronic Security Systems director for G4S in Serbia.
Vracar continues: “The scalable and fully data-driven tool will increase efficiency with better analytics, provide increased security with 1,500 cameras and LED guidance displays positioned strategically throughout the 3,600-space carpark, reduce CO2 emissions created by drivers as they search for a space and increase profitability through dynamic parking management.”
Marko Sukilovic, Business Development Director for G4S in Serbia & G4S Academy Strategic Solution Specialist, explains the importance of the risk-based approach used by G4S when consulting the Belgrade Waterfront, which focuses mainly on evaluating the key resources, risks, and possible resolutions:

As plans progress, and more buildings approach completion throughout the area, the Belgrade Waterfront will grow into a truly smart and connected hub.
