G4S provides the world’s first Oil & Gas specific security training programmes

G4S, the world’s leading global integrated security company, has launched industry-first oil and gas security training programmes, targeted specifically at the African market.

The programmes are designed to educate, train and develop both security supervisors and officers, providing them with specific knowledge on conditions unique to African oil and gas operations.

Operating in more than 120 countries, G4S used its vast global footprint to develop programme modules including Conflict Management, Critical Incident Management, Personal & Customer Safety, Building Peak Performance and Team Dynamics. Modules were developed based on feedback and insight from customers, clients and experts from within the G4S business.

It will initially be rolled out by in-house trainers to employees in South Africa, Nigeria, Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Ghana and Mozambique, with further countries already being targeted for the second phase roll-out.

The programme will equip personnel with the tools to manage and mitigate risk and help G4S employees integrate their operation seamlessly into customers’ health and safety agendas.
It will also enable G4S to build stronger community relationships around its oil and gas operations by up-skilling local employees with sector specific security training.

The development of the programme was led by Andrew Hames, Director Energy Mining and Construction, Africa Region, with support from country representatives and customers.

G4S employs more than122000 people in Africa, is present in 27 countries across the region and currently provides services to over 500 sites within its Energy Mining and Construction Division within Africa.

Our training approach in the Oil & Gas industry aims to create long term sustainability through ensuring we continue to equip our employees with the right skill sets and competencies to enable them to have a level of knowledge and skill to fully perform their respective roles and improve performance year-on-year for our valued customers.”
