Security by the Sea
THE CHALLENGES: OVERVIEW
One of G4S’s recent customers is a diversified investment firm based in Dubai. The customer is known for making highly strategic investments in assets and experiences. Though based in Dubai, the customer is a global investor, using its extensive resources to operate anywhere in the world successfully.
The customer’s previous security vendor had begun to struggle with maintaining the customer’s desired level of service. This led to delays in opening locations due to unresolved security issues, which resulted in the customer spending an inordinate amount of time training and retraining security guards on-site. It also spent too much time in meetings with the previous security provider trying to resolve the ongoing security issues.
Despite attempts to remedy the situation, the previous service provider had little success in meeting the customer’s expectations. This was especially true in two of the customer’s most prestigious harbour projects.
THE GOALS
The goal for G4S was simply to act as a competent security team on-site. The customer would rely on G4S to secure its assets, employees, customers, and visitors. Due to the past challenges of constantly training security staff from the previous vendor, it became critical that the new security provider be able to act as a self-guided and highly effective security force. The success in meeting this overarching goal was broken down into three key areas of focus:
1. Experiencing minimal security and safety-related incidents on-site.
2. Customer complaints should be at a minimum if not nonexistent.
3. Few to no complaints from the authorities and internal stakeholders.
With a high level of confidence, G4S was awarded the contract after several months of negotiation. In the end, G4S was chosen because it held the best value proposition to meet the customer’s requirements.
THE SOLUTION
- Vehicle patrolling supervisors
- Control room operators
- Mobile patrolling guards
- Static security guards
- Lifeguards through a third-party partner
Initial deployment began with around 30 security guards over the project’s first three months. These first few months were key to getting staff trained on the site’s requirements. It also provided an opportunity for the customer to assess the level of service the G4S team was providing. With the customer expressing satisfaction with the service, G4S began to deploy additional manpower and equipment. The goal is to have a total of 146 security guards on-site when deployment is complete, along with the following equipment:
- 2 patrolling vehicles
- 5 golf carts
- 52 tetra radios
THE RESULTS
Since the day G4S took over the security service at the sites, the customer has reported zero security-related incidents. This is a testament to the highly qualified security guards G4S has deployed and the level of training being provided.
This is a prestigious project for both the customer and the government of Dubai and sees frequent visits from VIPs. One of the major successes of this project from a security perspective is the flexibility G4S has to increase or decrease security guard deployment on very short notice. This helps mitigate the operational challenges the customer had previously faced.
G4S has also ensured success by supplementing its service with regular inspections of external patrolling supervisors by the G4S team. This has helped ensure that the on-site team is always 100% aligned with the overall project SLAs.
