G4S has won accreditation from Belgium’s National Maritime Authority enabling it to carry out port security assessments on behalf of the Belgian government.

G4S Belgium managing director Jean-Paul Van Avermaet said: “G4S has unrivalled experience in port security and an in-depth understanding of highly regulated maritime environments. We welcome this accreditation as a strong endorsement of our expertise and skills in this critical area.”

G4S Belgium is the first ever company under the new scheme to receive the Recognised Security Organisation (RSO) accreditation, which covers all International Ships and Ports Facilities Security (ISPS) compliant ports. In Belgium, these include Antwerp, Ghent, Zeebruges, Ostend, Brussels, Genk, Liège, the Waterways and the Zeekanaal.

Across Europe, G4S secures more than 100 ISPS certified terminals and over 200 port facilities worldwide and has also recently been recognised as an RSO in the Baltic States and Greece. G4S has provided port security in Belgium for more than 30 years.
