G4S El Salvador When Commitment Saves Lives
On 4 June 2025, the U.S. Embassy in San Salvador held its annual recognition ceremony, celebrating the dedication and excellence of its security team.
Among those honoured were Brian Perlera, Security Dispatcher, and Moisés Martínez, Perimeter Supervisor, who received special commendation for their courageous actions during an emergency in November 2024. Their intervention was instrumental in saving the life of a colleague during a sporting event.
A day of sport, an exemplary response
During the embassy’s annual football tournament, Agent Armando Borja fell to the ground and stopped breathing, showing signs of a possible cardiac arrest. The swift response of Mr Martínez and Mr Perlera proved decisive.
Alongside a U.S. military officer who administered CPR, they coordinated immediate care and used a defibrillator to stabilise the patient, whilst notifying the emergency response team and facilitating his transfer.
A hopeful ending and recognition of courage
Thanks to their timely intervention, Mr Borja was swiftly transferred to hospital where he made a full recovery. Doctors said that without immediate attention, the outcome could have been fatal.
The story was a powerful reminder of the impact of teamwork, and the highest standards of professionalism and dedication to duty.
