G4S officer Martin Yates praised for saving a woman from drowning in a UK river. His quick, life-saving actions are celebrated worldwide.
G4S Security Officer Hailed for Heroic River Rescue in UK
Martin, part of the G4S team at Hinkley Point C, was walking to work in the early hours of the morning, when he heard a cry for help as he crossed a footbridge over the River Taunton.
Looking down, he saw a woman clinging to wire mesh in the river below and rushed to help.
Demonstrating remarkable presence of mind, Martin was able to keep hold of the woman while he phoned the emergency services. When another passerby also stopped to assist, together they successfully pulled her to safety from the water.

This isn’t the first time one of our officers has made a real contribution to the local community with timely and heroic actions, and I’m immensely proud to be a part of a team with such a reputation.
Lifesaving actions
Visibly suffering from shock and extreme cold, Martin promptly offered the woman his jacket to keep her warm until paramedics arrived on the scene. Upon their arrival, they informed him that without his quick-thinking actions, she would have likely succumbed to exposure and hypothermia.
“Well done Martin, everyone on the HPC project is very proud of you,” said Jane Fairweather, Account Director.
For his courageous efforts, Martin was nominated for a prestigious G4S Values in Action award, recognising his commitment to the company's core principles.
