Port Phillip Prison ITC wins Platinum

Port Phillip Prison’s Initial Training Course (ITC) won the Platinum award in the best onboarding program category at the LearnX Awards

Port Phillip Prison’s Initial Training Course (ITC) won the Platinum award in the best onboarding program category at the LearnX Awards in 2023. With over 400 submissions from organisations across the globe, PPP emerged in first place, receiving top honour in the category.

The LearnX Awards is a prestigious event that recognises excellence in learning and development. The award for the best onboarding program is given to the organisation that has demonstrated the most innovative and effective approach to onboarding new employees and supporting talent development.

PPP’s ITC received an overhaul in January this year after we found that recruits were coming onto the prison floor unprepared. With more on-the-job training and less time in the classroom, the refreshed ITC helps new recruits quickly get up to speed on what they may be confronted with day-to-day.

The program is also designed to help new employees understand our values and culture, as well as build relationships with their colleagues and feel like part of the team. This ensures that our new recruits start with as much knowledge as possible to keep them safe and provide the best support for the individuals in our care.

Port Phillip Prison General Manager, Peter Maa said, "We are immensely proud to have received the prestigious LearnX Platinum Award for the Best Onboarding Program in 2023. This accolade is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our entire team, showcasing their commitment to crafting an onboarding experience that's second to none. This recognition underscores our commitment to providing an exceptional and impactful ITC, ensuring our new staff embark on their journey with knowledge, confidence, and a sense of belonging."
