According to new figures released today, G4S has helped more than 23,000 people into employment through the ‘Work Programme’ - the Government’s flagship scheme for helping long-term unemployed people into sustainable jobs.

The statistics from the Employment Related Services Association (ERSA), the trade body for the welfare to work industry, are the most up to date figures on the performance of the Work Programme available in the public domain.

Sean Williams, Managing Director of G4S Welfare to Work, said:

“The Work Programme is transforming the lives of tens of thousands of disadvantaged people, including many young people, by helping them into work.

“Although the economic backdrop has remained challenging, G4S and our delivery partners have managed to get 23,000 people back into employment – making annualised benefit savings of more than £100million for the taxpayer.

“There is always more work to be done but our performance is encouraging and we expect this to be reflected in the next set of government statistics, due to be released next week.”

G4S delivers the Work Programme for three regions in the UK, using a network of delivery partners, from the voluntary, professional and public sector.    

Of the 8,869 long-term unemployed people placed into jobs by G4S in the North West:

• 644 are from Stockport
• 668 are from Bolton
• 670 are from Oldham
• 503 are from Rochdale
• 402 are from Warrington
• Over 2,225 are young people aged 18 to 24 from across the region

Of the 9,462 long-term unemployed people placed into jobs by G4S in the South East:

• 1,031 are from Chatham
• 621 are from Brighton
• 479 are from Hastings
• 432 are from Crawley
• 388 are from Dartford
• 451 are from Maidstone
• 358 are from Worthing
• 294 are from Dover
• Over 2,646 are young people aged 18 to 24 from across the region

Of the 5,021 long-term unemployed people placed into jobs by G4S in the north east Yorkshire and Humber:

• 1,621 are from Hull
• 763 are from Grimsby
• 673 are from Scunthorpe
• 369 are from York
• 296 are from Scarborough
• Over 1,404 are young people aged 18 to 24 from across the region
