Transfer of Medway Secure Training Centre completes

G4S (UK) has today announced the completion of the transfer of Medway Secure Training Centre management to the Ministry of Justice’s National Offender Management Service (NOMS)
Ofsted inspectors report on Medway

250 G4S employees currently working at the centre have transferred to NOMS management.

It was announced in May that the centre, near Rochester in Kent, for young people aged 12-17 on remand or sentenced to custody, would be transferred to NOMS by the end of July.  The other secure training centre managed by G4S, Oakhill near Milton Keynes, is unaffected by today’s transfer.

G4S Regional President for the UK and Ireland, Peter Neden, said:

“We committed to complete the transfer of Medway by the end of July at the latest and our team has worked closely with the Ministry of Justice and the new leadership team to complete the transfer ahead of that deadline.

“We await the full findings of the Charlie Taylor review into youth custody and are determined to play our part in ensuring that the centres we manage enable young people to turn their lives around.”
