The Home Office has confirmed that G4S will be providing welfare support to detained families facing deportation at G4S-managed immigration removal centre Tinsley House in Gatwick.

Managing director for G4S custodial and detention services, Jerry Petherick, said:

"This announcement is testament to the expertise our team has developed over many years working with families in the days before removal from the UK.

"While the Cedars pre-departure facility for families is set to close, we are committed to establishing the same culture of safeguarding, care and support for families at this dedicated unit that has been created at Tinsley House. We are delighted that many of our team from Cedars will transfer to the new unit at Tinsley to help us achieve this.

"The days before removal from the UK can be very distressing and we look forward to creating the same spirit of multi-agency working with the Home Office and local welfare groups within this new unit to help us to achieve the highest standards for the people in our care."
