Devon and Cornwall Constabulary Agree Medical Services Contract
Under the contract G4S Forensic and Medical Services employees will be working throughout the region in a variety of specialist locations.
Part of G4S Integrated Services, which specialises in providing integrated facilities management and specialist support services in critical environments, G4S Forensic and Medical Services will provide a range of specialist services to assault victims in Devon and Cornwall including confidential medical care and counselling, emergency testing and treatment for sexual assault cases and forensic evidence gathering.
G4S Forensic and Medical Services is the first forensic organisation to handle direct calls from victims of sexual assault to a dedicated 24/7 365 days a year Triage Centre. This confidential service forms part of a self-referral process which incorporates in-house crisis workers and Sexual Offence Examiners to fully manage these case types. This service provides victims with the opportunity to have forensic evidence taken anonymously as well as providing essential advice, guidance, support and any follow up care helping to strengthen the trust and confidence of policing and care in the community. Whilst not in a position to provide this self-referral system at present, G4S are in the process of assisting Devon & Cornwall police and their partners to achieve this service for victims in the future.
Detective Superintendent Michele Slevin from Devon and Cornwall Police commented: “This is one of a number of improvements this police force has put in place for victims of Rape & Serious Sexual Offences. It is important for us to be able to provide specialist medical examiners and we are happy to have G4S Forensic & Medical Services working with us.”
Chris Elliott, Group Managing Director Integrated Services commented: ”This contract adds to our growing portfolio of police forces throughout England, demonstrating our strong reputation for delivering an exemplary service in this sensitive and challenging area of forensic medicine.”
