G4S Secure Solutions (UK) Ltd. (G4S) has today been named as one of 19 companies to help provide safety and  stewarding for the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games. In a  statement today, the company confirmed it was one of several companies on framework to provide safety stewards at venues around Glasgow.

A G4S spokesperson said:

“We are pleased to confirm that we have been appointed to the framework to provide safety stewarding at venues for the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.

“G4S already provides services at a number of the venues which are to be used for the Games at hundreds of events throughout the year, and we have a good understanding of the requirements for each of those venues.

“Should we be successful as part of the stewarding framework, we will deploy trained and experienced staff already working for us at these venues. We did not bid to be included on the Glasgow 2014 Organising Committee's security framework.”

G4S is one of the largest commercial employers in Scotland and is the incumbent safety stewarding provider at a number of venues earmarked for use at Glasgow 2014. These include: Hampden Park, Ibrox Stadium; the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome; the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre and Hydro; Scotstoun and the Emirates Arena.
