THE CHALLENGES: OVERVIEW

The customer places a high level of importance on minimising the risks of unauthorised access to physical and logical systems.

With safety and compliance absolutely critical, access management has an important role to play in the overall security plan. Any solution needs to be simple to use, easily managed, and monitored and must be installed in some challenging environments which include substations, power generation sites, and Operations Facilities.

THE GOALS

In the case of this project, objectives were clearly defined including:

  • Centralised Access Management to the customer premises for staff and visitors.
  • Simplified administration for those responsible for issuing passes.
  • Preventing unauthorised access to mission-critical environments.

THE SOLUTION

G4S supplied our AMAG Symmetry Security Management System which provides a common centrally managed access control solution across the customers’ network. Fully connected, the solution
controls access across the customer’s headquarters, regional offices and buildings, stores and generation, and distribution sites.

Card readers are carefully positioned to control access with a combination of local and centralised management of card production, access monitoring, and visitor management. The installed solution allowed the customer to create tiered access permissions to critical areas - all managed from a central location.

In addition, the platform provided an all-encompassing view of the security systems on site to give greater visibility and allow faster incident response when something untoward happened.

Security benefitted from greater controls with the ability to respond to threats by locking down doors or buildings and implementing pre-determined workflows. G4S were able to ensure that the customer was able to fully leverage their investment in the proposed solution through our understanding of the compliance, standards, legislation, and risks that are prevalent to this sector.

Using our experience of working in challenging, dangerous and critical environments, G4S was able to mobilise a dedicated Delivery Team consisting of personnel that has been heavily involved with a number of high profile National Accounts and Utilities organisations over a long period. This team demonstrated a clear understanding of the dynamics and conditions to operate successfully in this space.

With a focus on Safety and Compliance, the team managed the project carefully. Authorised staff with the appropriate clearances were used at all times. Risk assessments were produced as a matter of course and, upon completion, work permits were issued to execute the work in a safe manner.

THE RESULTS

G4S delivered the project successfully and has worked closely with the customers’ team to ensure that their investment is optimised and equipment operates to maximum effect. G4S engages with all the customers’ stakeholders and hosts regular KPI meetings ensuring satisfaction at all levels within the customer organisation.

The customer has benefitted from an improved visitor experience with a professional, yet secure process. In addition, the controls in place across the network have provided the customer with the ability to have effective local controls to take swift decisive action when needed but importantly provided a platform to monitor access at an estate wide level.

Project teams produced construction phase plans which clearly detailed a controlled project methodology and sequence of events to ensure installation progressed safely.
