Haile in the news ahead of London 2012
The first, an Olympic Celebration on Wednesday evening celebrated G4S’ sponsorship of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, and the second event, the following morning, was a unique G4S organised 3k run in Hyde Park.
The legendary distance runner was in huge demand with nearly all the top UK and international media outlets keen to meet with him and hear about his work as ambassador to the G4S 4teen.
He had barely stepped foot in the country before Haile was whisked to BBC Television centre where he was interviewed live by a number of presenters from Radio - 5 Live, Radio 4 and BBC World Service and TV – BBC Breakfast, News, BBC World and London, who were thrilled to meet Haile.
Later that day Haile entertained more journalists at his hotel where he shared his hopes for London 2012 and stories about the G4S 4teen athletes with Olympic correspondents from The Daily Telegraph, City AM, Metro, Sport Magazine and The Guardian.
It was fantastic to see the wave of excitement Haile created and we were delighted to hear that he is still aiming for 2012 glory, and not only for himself: “If I get a medal at the London Olympics, that would be incredible but if myself and one of the G4S 4teen athletes got a medal – wow, now this is the dream” Haile Gebrsealssie.
As the sun rose over London’s Hyde Park Serpentine a once in a life time opportunity began for some lucky runners and London 2012 mascots Wenlock and Mandeville as they joined Haile on a 3k jog around the park, for many it was an early start but as they were greeted by one of the world’s most talented athletes this didn’t seem to matter.
